Title: Bachelor of Science (University of Southern Queensland)
Institution: Open Learning Australia, Australia, OLAUST

Level:

Degree.

Description:
General guidelines:
- Students must successfully complete 24 units or their equivalent - At least eight units, or one third of the degree, must be studied through the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), either with Open Learning Australia (OLA), by distance education, or on-campus studies
- Four core USQ units are compulsory: 90501 Communications; 90502 Australia, Asia and the Pacific; 66001 Introduction to Computing; and 64001 Data Analysis. USQ may deem specific OLA units as
equivalent to some of these core units - students wishing to discuss this possibility should initially contact the Outreach section at the address listed under "Further Information"
- Students may choose to do a broad based science degree by taking a major sequence of eight units (at least two being third year level units) from one of the following disciplines: biology, chemistry, computing, environmental earth science; mathematics, physics, or statistics. If students pursue this option they must take a further four units from those offered by the Faculty of Sciences. The remaining units may be taken from any other discipline, provided that a total of four third year level units are completed
- Students may choose to specialise in one discipline. Such a choice would entail completing at least fifteen units from one of the following disciplines: biology, applied mathematics, or psychology. Students who propose to do postgraduate studies must choose this specialist degree
- In both versions of the degree, students will be expected to take a number of elective units. These elective units may be chosen from any discipline, but they are aimed at complementing a student's primary area of study and to broaden a student's knowledge and perspective
- Students are recommended to consult the USQ Handbook for full details of the course structure.

Please note that USQ may not have completed a credit transfer
assessment of all OLA units. Please seek advice from either the university or OLA regarding units for which students will receive specific credit.

Entrance qualifications: Having completed at least one OLA unit a student may apply to enrol in this degree. Selection is on a
competitive basis, but success in OLA studies should improve a
student's chance of selection.
